Creating A Thriving Earth For All

About Us

Synergies is a digital platform produced by the Office of Sustainability at the College of Charleston to educate, inspire, and mobilize students, staff, and the greater community to embody sustainability in their work and their lives. We intend Synergies to be a community resource with articles, essays, artwork, podcasts, and DIY projects connected with creating a thriving Earth for all.

The Office of Sustainability is organizationally located within the Division of Business Affairs at the College of Charleston and is comprised of staff members and student interns.

What We Do

Applied Research

The 71% Project researches and responds to the effects of marine plastic and the seafood industry on the South Carolina Lowcountry. Reinvest CofC strategically campaigned for the College of Charleston to invest in socially responsible companies.

Experiential Learning

The Urban Garden Apprenticeship Program is an intensive, semester-long program designed to give students the opportunity to explore the intersection between social justice and our urban food system. Apprentices participate in on- and off-campus workdays, field trips, seminar-style discussions, and workshops.

Operational Mangement

Zero Waste is a goal set by the College of Charleston to eliminate the concept of waste from our processes here on campus. Instead, we must begin to think of the goods that come in and go out of campus as materials and resources that can and should be reused.

Public Engagement

The Social Justice Coffee Hour serves to provide a forum for educated and informal dialogue about different social justice issues by presenting students and attendees with different viewpoints and voices on important issues.
